Overview

This brush pack is free! You can type $0 into the price box to redeem it for free. Coffee donations are welcome :)

These are image textured base brushes for Grease Pencil in Blender. The primary application for these brushes is for storyboarding but are also great for character sketching. There are a variety of pencils, pens, markers, chalk, airbrushes and nature stamp effects.

The stamp brushes are using images of trees I took or custom made leaf drawings in Photoshop. The stamp brushes can also be adjusted to use the Color Attribute setting and then you can change the hue randomization to get different values which add contrast to the strokes.

Versions

There are two different versions for this brush pack. Please download the correct zip file depending on which version of Blender you are using.

Saving Brush Assets

In Blender 4.3, Grease Pencil was upgraded to GP 3.0. In this new iteration of GP, brushes are considered assets located in the asset browser. If you’re new to this, don’t worry - it’s easy to setup and makes it easier to share brushes. There’s two ways you can save the brush pack file to use for Blender 4.3 and up:

  1. Save the MV_GP_Brushes_for_4.3.blend file in the brushes folder within the Blender Program files (win: Program Files > Blender Foundation > 4.3 (or w/e version you're on) > 4.3 > datafiles > assets > brushes
  2. Save the MV_GP_Brushes_for_4.3.blend file where you keep other asset libraries and add that folder path to your asset library directory in Edit > Preferences > File Paths > Asset Libraries

Note: you have to be in Textured or Rendered view to see the textures. If you are in Solid view then you need to select the Texture option under Color Attribute in the Viewport Shading settings.

GP 2.0 YouTube Tutorial

Below is my demo showing the brushes from Blender 4.2. The application and feel of the brushes remain the same in Blender 4.3+. I plan to make a video showing the GP3.0 update with the brushes.

Brushes have slightly different settings in the Blender 4.3+ version but the video shows off the same brushes
